todaay .

Today i completed the Digital Art- Real Art questions and posted most of what i did on Painting tools. I'll start the next task 'Activity using Paint program 8 of clubs' tomorrow :)

Painting Tools.

Here are the the names and functions of the tools for the Paint program :

Functions:

  • Free-Form select - This tool has the effect to erase background colours or elements from a motif for stand-alone.
  • Select - This tool has the same effect as the free-form select except that with this tool you can select using an outline of a square rather than drawing your own outline.
  • Eraser - This tool is used to clear any part of the picture.
  • Fill with colour - This tool is used to fill the background with your choice of colour.
  • Pick colour - With this tool you need to click on any colour you wish to use and that will automatically be your colour choice.
  • Magnifier - Zooms into the picture at the rates of 1x, 2x, 6x and 8x.
  • Pencil - This tool is just like a normal graphite pencil, your draw it using your hands (free-hand). It can also be any colour you choose it to be.
  • Brush - This tool has similar characteristics to the pencil, except that it is darker and has thicker lines.
  • Airbrush - This tool is used the same way as a normal paintbrush except with a different feature using air.
  • Text - Used to add text to the painting.
  • Line - Used to draw straight lines onto the painting.
  • Curve - Used to draw curved lines onto the painting. Draw a line, then drag, from wherever you would like to curve the line, for as long as you need it.
  • Rectangle - This tool is used to draw a rectangle of any size.
  • Polygon - Used to make any shape with 3 sides or more.
  • Ellipse - Makes circles and other round shapes.
  • Rounded Rectangle - Makes rectangles with round corners of any size.

Digital art - Real art questions

-Some people criticise digital art as being not real art, that digital art is some how cheating, that the computer is doing all the work for you.

*Research some definitions of art:

-Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. These include a wide range of variety of human activities, and modes of expression such as music, literature, film, paintings, and sculptures.
-The products of human creation.
-The creation of beautiful or significant things.

*A discussion point. “Is digital art a valid form of art?”

"Just as oil paint and the printing press once transformed expression, so too have computers spawned previously unimaginable worlds." - Steve Holtzman. I don't see any difference between real and 'virtual' media as they are both made by an artist. Digital art is made on a computer but it is still drawn or created by an artist. Photography is also a type of Digital art and it is completely valid. Digital art is a creative process and the elements of Photoshop or similar programs are simply tools like the physical tools you use in painting or drawing. The digital tools you apply in small parts, like brushes and lines and smudging and blurring and so on, are directly related to using paintbrushes, your fingers, erasers, etc.

*What are some advantages that digital paint programs and draw programs offer over the traditional methods (canvas and paint).

You have the ability to quickly make changes in digital art such as in these two pictures. Look closely at all the different changes there was made in each picture:

This is the first picture ^ Look at the next one it is in more detail.

This one shows more detail of the girl ^

In digital art there is no mess, when you complete it, you can make as many copies of it as you want and they will still be the original. You can also save it onto whatever you want and it won't be at the risk of being stolen as the original. There is more detail in digital art, its more flexible and it's quick with many bright colours.

*What skills must a digital artist possess to create a great digital art?

The artist must have to be able to use a computer and have access to one. They also have to know how to use the software correctly.

programs.

There are two different types of programs :

- draw programs (e.g inkscape) ; seperate objects >> always edit. has more of a cartoon style.

- paint programs (e.g paint, photoshop) ; edit each pixel >> no objects. more photo realistic.

Digital Mediaa - Real Art .

This is the painting i made on the website http://www.queeky.com :

This is the painting i made on the website http://www.artpad.art.com :

I liked the Queeky website because it had more detail and there were more features to use rather than the ones on Art-Pad. And also the paintings had more texture and you could choose if you wanted to use a pencil or a paintbrush. On Art-Pad you can also add frames to the painting which makes it look more realistic and like someone actually painted it and hung it up on the wall of a gallery. On ArtPad you could replay your drawing as well in any pace you wish.

Digital media .

Q1.

-mobile phones
-digital television
-digital video
-internet
-playstation
-nintendo wii
-CD's
-e-book

Q2.

Digital data is based on the binary numeral sytem. the two numbers that are used to code all digital data is '0' and '1'.

Q3.

A 'bit' is a single numeric value either '1' or '0' that incodes a single unit of digital information. a 'byte' is a sequence of bits; usually 8 bits per byte.

Q4.

The sampling rate defines the number of samples per second, taken from a continuous signal to make a discrete signal.

Q5.

Colour depth or Bit depth is a computer graphics term describing the number of bits used to represent the colour of a pixel in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer. Higher colour depth gives a broader range of distinct colours. Here is some examples:

1 bit (2 colours) ^

2 bit (4 colours)^

4 bit (16 colours)^

8 bit (256 colours)^
true colour (24+bits)^

Q6.

Colour depth affects both still and video digital media because both of these use pictures. Sampling rate only affects video because sound is only used in video not in still media.

first blog.

ayee this is my first blog, i am writing this in my second lesson. Today i logged into my igoogle account and created a new tab for school and also added widgets in the tab. I also added a new folder in my S drive called IST and term 1. I also finished setting up my blogger account and decorating my page. I did the setting up for the blogger but i have not removed the ability to comment or the time for my posts. I am up to my second task now.
